Aims of the centre
The Study Support Centre aims to provide the means for children to improve their standards of literacy, numeracy and ICT, in a fun way through
involvement in the football club and the community in general.
All activities at the centre are related to football which provides the motivation to continue to learn, as the children are applying their skills to
something they find interesting.
School Liaison
A representative from the centre is invited to local schools and working with the teachers, can put together a group of students who would most
benefit from the centre.
Curriculum
The centre delivers a different programme to primary and secondary children which will be under constant review. The children’s performance in tests
at the beginning and end of the programme are taken into account when the curriculum is being planned. The children spend more than half their time
at the centre using the computers, either for IT specific purposes or as the vehicle for learning literacy and numeracy.
With the exception of the multiplication tables, on which the primary children spend ten minutes a week, all activities are related to football. For
example, the children can use mathematics to calculate transfer fees, or game plans, or use their literacy to create match reports or press
releases.
The hours of operation for the centre are still under consideration.
